Q:
What are the race disciplines for 2009?
A:
This year our event
will
have
mountain biking, running/trekking, kayaking/canoeing, overland
hiking/navigating
and the ever-present mystery events. The event will end with
a Freeestyle Navigation leg similar to a Score-O at orienteering meets.
Q: Can we bring spectators? Or if we are not racing can we
come watch?
A:
Absolutely!!
We encourage people to come see what is going on! A lot of
action
takes place right at the TA, while we don't want people wandering
around inside the TA, we welcome people to bring a lawn chair and enjoy
the madness.
Q: Where can I download the Waiver Form and the Medical Form?
A:
You can get them right here. Waiver
Med
Form
Please remember, We need the Waiver, but YOU need to keep your med form
on your person during the race.
Q: What is your fax number?
A:
To fax your Entries or Waivers to us, please use this number:
928-776-4466 No cover sheet necessary.
Q: What time does the race start?
A:
Long course racers will have a pre-race meeting at 7:25am with a start
of 8:00am. Short course will be 8:15 pre-race meeting with a
9:00
start.
Q: What scale maps will we be using?
A:
All
racers will plot on 1:10,000 scale map. Both courses may be
using
other scale maps, but not for plotting.
Q: What is a Freestyle Navigation Finish?
A:
After the
biking, paddling and trekking legs you will cross the finish line.
At that
point you will be considered an official finisher. Then your
team
will be given a map with additional navigation points already marked on
it. You will have until either 2:00pm (short course) or 3:00pm
(long course)to find
and punch as many points
as you can. The number of nav points found will determine
your
team's ranking. In the event that more than one team finds
all
the points, whichever one has done so first will rank higher.
This is a time management excersize, as your team will lose
credit for one nav point for each five-minute window that you return
after the cut-off time.
Q: What???
A:
If you still don't get the Freestyle Nav Finish, make sure and let us
know. We will be happy to explain it further.
Q: Where is the race going to be?
A:
The actual
race site will not be made public until it is posted on this web site
on Wednesday September 23rd. We do this in order to keep it
as
adventurous as possible! Look for an update on that day with
all
the info.
Q:
Is there camping available?
A:
There are no campsites at the race site. There are a many
different campgrounds within a 20 minute drive. There are
bathrooms at the TA.
There is cell phone
coverage at the race site.
Q:
What equipment do I need?
A:You
can begin
Adventure Racing with very little gear, and you usually know someone
you can borrow from until you decide that AR is for you.
Then
you
can slowly build your equipment inventory race by race. See
the
link called Required Gear on the main page.
Q:
Am I capable of doing this?
A:Yes
you are! One of
the best
things about Adventure Racing is
that people of all levels of fitness and expertise can compete
together. While some of the fastest teams run all the time,
many
teams walk the trekking legs. We wouldn't suggest that
someone
who doesn't exercise at all enter a race, we can tell you from personal
experience that if you can hike and bike, you CAN be an adventure
racer!
Q: Why don't you
allow
solo racers?
A:
Adventure Racing is
a team
sport. It is often the team
dynamic
and your ability to work together that will dictate how you do in an
Adventure Race. AR also can be a dangerous sport, and we
don't
want anyone to be out there alone.
Q: What
is the route the race will take?
A:
Adventure Racing,
true to
its name is an adventure.
We
do not disclose the order of events or the course until just before the
start. This is one of the main things that seperates AR from
other sports. Having to adapt and be flexible to what you may
encounter is just another challenge in a day of Adventure Racing.
Q: Do all team members
have to do all events?
A:
Yes,
all team
members must complete each event and travel within 100 meters of each
other
during all parts of the race in order to be a successful finisher.
There are sometimes exceptions to this, if there are, they will be
noted in the rules of the event.
