GILMORE ADVENTURE RACE 2008

Official Rules
Participant Requirements
Every participant must have previous experience in orienteering, hiking and biking.  This race is a good place for beginning racers, but NOT for people that do not already have the aforementioned skills.
Failure to provide current health insurance information on the Medical Form may result in disqualification.

General Rules
1.  All racers are expected to exhibit good sportsmanship. Always treat your fellow racers with courtesy and respect.
2.  Teams should always compete as a team, working together, remaining within 100 meters of each other. Stay within visual contact of your teammates, unless otherwise directed by race officials. Penalty for violating 100-meter rule: 30 minutes per occurance.
3.  All team members must check-in together at each checkpoint. If one member must leave the course, they will do so at a CP or TA and notify race management. The remaining members may continue unofficially.
4.  Maps and Checkpoint Card must be carried the entire race. Penalty for lost map: 30 minutes. Penalty for lost CP card: DNF in rankings.
5.  All CP’s must be obtained in order, unless otherwise noted. . If a team misses a CP, they will be allowed to go back and get it, but must visit each subsequent CP, even if they have already checked in previously.
6.  Mandatory gear must be carried at all times and will be checked on the course. Penalty: 10 min. for each piece of missing gear.
7.  No GPS receivers.  Penalty: DQ   Each team will be allowed to carry a cell phone for emergency use only.  It must be kept in the Power Off mode throughout the race.  Any team seen using or found in possesion of a cell phone with the power turrned ON will be DQ'ed.
8.  Each team must consist of 2 or 3 members, and must fit within one of the divisions.
9.  Teams may provide their own support crew, but support is not required, as the start, finish and TA are all in one location.
10.  Bicycle helmets are required at all times during the biking leg and when specifically directed by race officials. Penalty for not wearing helmet: 1 hour per teammate per infraction.
11.  Racers must follow “Rules of Travel”. Where no specific path is designated, teams select their path between check points. When “Rules of Travel” designate a specific route, teams must follow that path. Penalty for Travel on forbidden roads or violating “Rules of Travel”: 1 hour per teammate per infraction.
12.  Water, Food and Gear should be placed at the available TA. Race Officials will not provide water, or food on the course unless specified by Race Officials. Athletes may not receive outside assistance except from Race Officials. Penalty: DQ.
13.  NO LITTERING!  Penalties for littering will be discussed at the pre-race meeting.
14.  All time penalties will be assessed to the total time after teams cross the finish line.
15.  Freestyle navigation for points will commence upon crossing finish line.  Each minute past the announced race cutoff time will cost the team 1 pt.  
16.  Race officials reserve the right to remove a team from the course for health, safety or other reasons, at the discretion of race officials and medical personnel.
17.  Race officials reserve the right to alter time cut-offs of the course itself to accommodate changing conditions and to insure that teams finish prior to the cut-off. 
18.  All Adventure Racers must complete all special tests as directed and cross the finish line as a team to qualify for prizes.


Award Rules
1.  Awards ceremonies will begin after results are compiled.
2.  Awards will not be issued prior to the award ceremony.
3.  Teams not able to stay for their awards must contact race officials after September 28th to make arrangements for pick up.
4.  Awards will be held until October 10th, after which time they will become the property of Venturing Crew 1.
5.  Prizes will be awarded to the top 3 qualified finishing teams in the 3 Person Coed division and both Venturing Aged divisions, provided that there are at least 3 teams in that division.  We will award more prizes if we have them available.
6.  Only Teams that have completed every race leg and task and presented completed Check Point Card will be eligible for prizes.

Medical Rules:
Participants have the right to receive basic medical first-aid without the risk of being disqualified from the event. Teams requiring medical treatment from race officials or EMS personnel outside of a CP or TA will be pulled from the event and listed as “Did Not Finish” in the official results. Medical Personnel and the Race Directors, have final say in regards to an athlete continuing on in the event.
